Improve water flow and pressure around your home or property with the Smart Stream XJm81CE 0.8 HP Automatic Jet Water Pump. This complete package includes a 110V voltage surge protector to provide added electrical protection for the pump.
Designed for household water supply, tank-fed systems, pipeline pressurization, garden watering and irrigation, the pump delivers a maximum flow rate of 50 litres per minute, a maximum head of 42 metres and a maximum suction lift of 9 metres.
The attached Smart Stream PS-04A automatic pump controller starts the pump when water demand is detected, such as when a tap is opened, and stops it when the tap is closed. This gives you convenient, on-demand water pressure without having to switch the pump on and off manually.
The automatic controller features Power On, Pump On and Failure indicator lights, along with a manual Reset button. The motor is rated for continuous duty and is thermally protected to help prevent damage caused by overheating during abnormal operation.
A separate 110V voltage surge protector is included with the pump. It is designed to help protect the pump’s electrical system by monitoring the incoming voltage before supplying power to the unit.
The protector includes indicator lights for:
The built-in waiting cycle delays the restoration of power after an interruption or unacceptable voltage condition. This gives the electrical supply time to stabilize before the pump receives power again.
The voltage protector also includes:
The surge protector provides an additional layer of protection, but the pump must still be properly grounded and connected to a correctly rated electrical circuit with suitable circuit and earth-leakage protection.
Temperature notice: Although the automatic controller is rated for liquid temperatures up to 60°C, the pump manual specifies a maximum liquid temperature of 40°C. The complete system should therefore not be operated with water above 40°C.
Once the pump has been correctly installed, filled with clean water and properly primed, the automatic controller monitors water demand.
Opening a tap causes a change in system pressure, prompting the pump to start automatically. When the tap is closed and water demand ends, the controller stops the pump automatically.
If the controller detects an abnormal condition, the Failure indicator may illuminate. After correcting the cause of the fault, the Reset button can be used to restart the system.
The pump must never be operated without water.
The exact electrical installation should be checked by a qualified electrician.
Professional installation by a qualified plumber, pump technician or electrician is strongly recommended.
Actual pressure and flow will depend on the installation height, pipe diameter, pipe length, number of bends, condition of the water source and total system resistance.
This pump is intended for transferring clean, normal-temperature, non-corrosive water.
Do not use it for:
Installation pipes, valves, filters, fittings and other plumbing accessories are not stated as included unless otherwise specified at the time of purchase.
1. Is a surge protector included?
Yes. A 110V voltage surge protector is included with the pump.
2. What does the included voltage protector do?
It monitors the incoming voltage and helps protect the pump against unacceptable overvoltage and undervoltage conditions. It also includes a waiting cycle before restoring power.
3. What do the lights on the voltage protector indicate?
The protector has indicators for normal voltage, waiting cycle, overvoltage and undervoltage.
4. Does the surge protector replace proper grounding and circuit protection?
No. It provides an additional layer of protection. The pump must still be properly grounded and connected to a suitable circuit with correctly rated protection.
5. Does the pump switch on and off automatically?
Yes. The attached Smart Stream PS-04A controller starts the pump when water demand is detected and stops it when demand ends.
6. How powerful is the pump?
The motor is rated at 0.6kW or 0.8 HP.
7. What is the maximum flow rate?
The maximum stated flow rate is 50 litres per minute. Actual flow will vary according to lift height, pipe size, pipe length and system resistance.
8. What is the maximum head?
The maximum head is 42 metres. Maximum head is not the same as the pump’s normal working pressure or flow. Available flow decreases as the required lift and pressure increase.
9. How deep can the pump draw water from?
The maximum stated suction lift is 9 metres under suitable conditions. Real-world suction performance may be lower due to pipe length, bends, air leaks and elevation.
10. Can it boost water pressure in a house?
Yes. It can be used for household pressure boosting when correctly sized and installed. Suitability depends on the number of outlets, required flow, pipework and source-water conditions.
11. Can it pump water from a storage tank?
Yes. It can transfer clean water from a suitable storage tank when the suction pipe, foot valve and fittings are correctly installed.
12. Can it draw water from a shallow well?
Yes, provided the water is clean and the suction requirements remain within the pump’s stated limits.
13. Does the pump need to be primed?
Yes. The pump chamber and suction line must be filled with clean water before initial startup. Never operate the pump dry.
14. What pipe size does it use?
The pump has a 1-inch inlet and a 1-inch outlet.
15. Is the pump waterproof?
No. The pump carries an IPX4 rating, which provides limited protection against splashing. It must not be immersed or directly exposed to heavy rain.
16. Can the included voltage protector get wet?
No. Keep the voltage protector, plug, outlet and all electrical connections dry and protected from moisture.
17. What does the Failure light on the automatic controller mean?
It indicates that the controller has detected an abnormal operating condition. Disconnect the power and check the water supply, priming, suction line, foot valve, filters and possible leaks before resetting it.
18. Can the pump handle dirty water?
No. It is designed for clean water without sand, stones, fibres or other solid particles.
19. Can it be used with hot water?
The pump manual specifies a maximum liquid temperature of 40°C. It is not intended to operate as a hot-water circulation pump.
20. Does it require a pressure tank?
The attached electronic controller provides automatic operation without a traditional pressure-tank arrangement for basic installations. System requirements vary, so a qualified installer should determine whether additional equipment is necessary.
21. Can it be installed outdoors?
Only in a properly protected, weather-resistant and well-ventilated enclosure. It should not be directly exposed to rain, flooding or constant moisture.
22. Does it operate on Trinidad and Tobago’s electrical supply?
The pump and included voltage protector are rated for 110V operation, while the pump operates at 60Hz. A qualified electrician should verify the circuit, grounding and protective devices before installation.
23. What should I do after a power interruption?
Allow the voltage protector to complete its waiting cycle. Do not bypass the protector or repeatedly switch the pump on and off while the voltage supply is unstable.
24. Should it be professionally installed?
Yes. Correct plumbing, priming, grounding and electrical protection are essential for safe and reliable operation.
